The HRD Online training system explained

1. What is a certified course?

A certified course comprises a series of e-briefings which range from 1 - 4 hours of learning material. On average there are 6.6 e-briefings for each course, which provides a range between 8 – 29 hours depending of the topic selected. For the specific number of e-briefings and CPD hours see courses.

2. What is an ebriefing?

Learning programmes are made up of several ebriefings – these are short courses consisting of subject knowledge, exercises, www study links and a content quiz for CPD hour allocation see ebriefings.

3. What are CPD Hours?

CPD hours stands for Continued Professional Development and is an industry measure placed on the typical number of hours that an average student would take to progress through and complete the course successfully. CPD hours therefore is an average for the time students take depends upon their experience or need for in depth study.

4. What is a business discipline portfolio?

This is a composite of certificate courses carefully selected to achieve a good cross section of learning material across a particular business discipline. The 56 certificates have been compiled into 11 business disciplines see courses

5. What is a portal plan?

A Portal Plan is an extremely cost effective HRD solution for an employer to implement and manage a training programme for its employees. Entry point requires the purchase of any 3 the 11 business disciplines which gives up to 20 students access to, on average, 15 certified courses, depending on the disciplines chosen. See portal prices - click here.

Please refer to system features to gain an appreciation of the range of LMS business facilities that can be made available to employers buying into Portal Plans.

Our Portal Plan matrix extends to the purchase of 11 business disciplines through 7 student bands to 2000 employees. Payment of Portal Plans is offered as an annual fee which can be paid on a monthly basis. We will be pleased to take any enquiries for those organisations who have learning needs in excess of 2000 employees.

6. When I have a licence how do I access the learning system?

When the licence is issued, you will receive notification by email. This will provide you with a username and a password. You may login through the HRD Online website or in the case of a Portal Plan, your own employer's website. When you logon we recommend that you change your password to something personal and memorable.

7. How long does the licence last?

Access to the system varies according the type of eLearning course purchased.

  •  Certified courses – 4 months
  •  Business Disciplines – 6 months
  •  Basic Portal Plans – 12 months
  •  Extended Portal Plans - 3 years
  •  Advanced Portal Plans - 5 years
  •  ILM Accredited Courses – 2 years

8. What system requirements are necessary?

You just need internet connections so your course can be completed from home or work or whilst travelling.

9. What kind of computer knowledge do I need?

A student requires only basic computer knowledge to take part; experience of using a keyboard and the internet is all it takes. The system is very user friendly but for the more cautious user, guides are provided.

10. Does the system remind me to keep learning?

Yes, if you choose to register for each ebriefing the system will start emailing you one bite per day with a link to take you straight into the learning content.

11. Is there an audit trail?

Yes - continual assessment ensures learning along the way. Our system utilises such things as Skill Card, which outlines individual student progress; as well as a range of reports which include CPD tracking on student groups within an organisation. The HRD Learning Management System (LMS) ensures all tasks, modules, quizzes etc. are recorded in order for a line manager or supervisor to check the compliance of all participants. With the facility of specifying data ranges, this creates an audit trail for the organisation, for any appropriate period the employer may choose, for all staff who take part in the e-learning.

12. Do I get a certificate when I have finish my elearning course?

Yes for certified courses, providing you have reached the required percentage pass rate. If this is achieved, the certificate is made available online for printing click here.

13. If I don't pass all the content quizzes - can I have another go?

Yes, you can revisit any ebriefing at any time and re-take the quizzes as many times as you need until you achieve a 60% pass grade or to improve your pass result.

14. Can I find out how I am doing?

Yes, by clicking on the Records Tab in the system you can obtain details of your learning activity and CPD hours acquired

15. Can I make notes and set goals and action plans?

Yes, you can make notes in support of your programme and also in each ebriefing. There is a goal setting and action planning facility under your Records Tab. In addition goals and action plans can be set for you by your line manager or 3rd party assessor if you are on a portal plan.

16. Can I obtain accreditation for any non-accredited learning?

Yes, in many cases ebriefings on non-accredited programmes are linked to units in the ILM qualifications. This means if you progress from a certified course to an ILM qualification then relevant CPD hours are carried forward.
